So what's the nightlife like in Namibia?
In my experience you'll find it cheap (sometimes very cheap!), and welcoming. You can expect to get a beer for £0.50-£1 depending on where you go. And a main meal - believe me you won't want starters unless you have a big appetite - for under £10
On my last visit we chose to stay in Swakopmund, mainly because there is more nightlife there and it avoids a long drive from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund each morning. I have stayed in Walvis Bay before and the accomodation there is absolutely first class (The Courtyard Hotel) and there are some nice restaurants too but they tend to be a fair trek from the hotel and besides the restaurants there's not much else to do.

Our personal favourite in Swakopmund was 'The Lighthouse' pub and restaurant, Strand Street (+264 64 400894 for reservations). It is split into a bar area - managed at the time by 'Smiley' - and a separate restaurant and at weekends it pays to book in advance. Beer was a little more expensive (about £0.85) but the food was first class. Other than Lobster the most expensive meal was a massive 700grm/24oz rump steak for about £7! And most of the menu is less than a fiver.
Other haunts we tried were 'Cookies bar' where the beer was fabulous and 'The Copper Pot' restaurant where the food was absolutely excellent, although when we returned this year it looks as though this has either moved or closed down. Late night bars that we frequented include Rafters (owned by the same people as The Lighthouse) and Fagins, which was run by a guy from Manchester!

In Walvis Bay, there are 2 restaurants of note that we tried. 'The Raft', which is excellent and just 5 minutes walk from the Courtyard and 'Crazy Mama's' which is about 15 minutes walk from the Courtyard but serves up some huge meals. Again these restaurants are extremely cheap by UK standards!
For the really adventurous you could go out clubbing! With the help of the staff from the Lighthouse we did that on the Friday night we were staying there and had a great time. Mind you getting in at 5ish when Terence is due to pick you up at 8am is not a good idea! A word of advice here though do yourself a favour and make sure you stay together in a group and if you can get some of the staff from the bar or restaurant that you are in to go with you, pay for them to get into the club and buy them a couple of drinks. That way you will be sure to be safe and honestly it will be the best £10 you've ever spent!
